What is a reverse text generator?

A reverse text generator rewrites your text backwards or turns it into special characters that look flipped or mirrored. It is a simple idea with surprisingly many uses: eye-catching social media bios, word games and puzzles, secret messages for friends, classroom activities, and testing how software handles unusual text.

Six ways to reverse and flip text

  • Reverse letters writes the entire text backwards: “NS Tools Hub” becomes “tiKlooT SN”.
  • Reverse word order keeps each word readable but flips their order, which is handy for poetry and puzzles.
  • Reverse each word keeps the word order but writes each word backwards.
  • Reverse line order flips a list so the last line comes first, useful for logs and ranked lists.
  • Upside-down text uses Unicode look-alike characters to flip letters upside down, as if the text were rotated 180 degrees.
  • Mirror text uses mirrored look-alike characters so the text reads as if seen in a mirror.

How upside-down and mirror text works

Computers do not have a “rotate” setting for plain text. Instead, our mirror text maker swaps each letter for a different Unicode character that happens to look like a flipped version of it, for example “e” becomes “ǝ” and “h” becomes “ɥ”. Because the result is ordinary Unicode text, you can paste it almost anywhere. A few letters have no perfect look-alike, so they are left unchanged, and very old devices may show a box for rare characters.

For developers: reverse a string in JavaScript

Want to reverse a string in JavaScript yourself? [...str].reverse().join('') handles most text, while Intl.Segmenter keeps emoji intact. Our guide on reversing strings in JavaScript, Python and PHP explains the pitfalls of the common reverse string JavaScript one-liner.

Use reversed text responsibly

Fancy text is fun, but screen readers may read look-alike characters as gibberish or skip them entirely. Keep important information, such as your name, contact details or calls to action, in normal text, and use flipped text as decoration. Remember too that reversed text is not encryption: anyone can flip it back in seconds.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write backwards online?

Type or paste your text in the box. The “Reverse letters” result shows it fully backwards; press Copy to use it.

Can I paste upside-down text on Instagram, TikTok or WhatsApp?

Usually yes. The output is standard Unicode, which most modern apps display. A few rare characters may not render on older devices, so preview before posting.

Why are some letters not flipped?

Unicode does not contain a perfect upside-down or mirrored version of every letter. Where no good look-alike exists, the original character is kept so the text stays readable.

Does the tool handle emoji correctly?

Yes. It reverses by grapheme clusters, so emoji, skin-tone variants, flags and accented letters stay intact instead of breaking into broken symbols.

Is reversed text a secure way to hide messages?

No. Reversing is a playful effect, not encryption. Anyone can reverse it again. Use proper encrypted messaging for anything private.

Is upside-down text accessible?

Not fully. Screen readers often cannot read look-alike characters. Use flipped text for decoration and keep important information in normal text.
